| Learn Spanish in Antigua, Guatemala - Take a language course in Guatemala and study Spanish at our partner school in Antigua, Guatemala The city of Antigua was built in 1543. It preserves the architectonic characteristics of the 16th century, such as stone paved streets, baroque style buildings, large doors with stone arches, windows with stone base and forged steel balconies, beams carved in precious woods, large stone fountains and tile roofs. All houses and buildings are of colonial style. They prevail in a strange and extraordinary mixture of peace and active life, forming today, a beautiful colonial city where it seems that time stood still. | | | UNESCO declared Antigua "Heritage of Humanity" in 1979. Guatemala has been the focus of Spanish studies for many years. Whether you would like to improve your Spanish or master the language for business/ travelling, then this is the right place for you.
Guatemala's warm year round climate and the historical environment of Antigua will make your stay productive and relaxing. Welcome! | |

Spanish Language Courses
| Our Spanish language school partner offers Spanish language courses based on one-to-one tuition and develops very effective study plans permitting students to create their own study program if they wish. Half of the time is used to learn new Spanish vocabulary and for intensive Spanish grammar. The other half is used for activities which help to practice what you have learned during the class. Depending on your Spanish level your teacher will design special programs for your need and interest. The staff has vocabulary lists specified for all types of work or study; airlines, medicine, architecture, law, economics, teachers, social services, missionaries, as well as for students who only need Spanish for traveling. Please let us know for what you need the Spanish, and we will teach you according to your need. During every lesson your teacher notes any errors you make. At the end of each class, the teacher reviews these errors. The student will then take a weekly exam which covers all the errors made and all of the grammar studied that week. This is done to measure the student's progress. Classes begin on the day of the week that YOU choose, Monday through Saturday. YOU decide how many hours you wish to study; options range from 2 to 7 hours daily. Each student remains with his or her own teacher for one week and then rotates to another teacher. This change provides the student with an exposure to different manners of speech. However, if you prefer to keep your original teacher, you may continue studying with that teacher. If you study for more than 4 hours per day, you have the option of having a different teacher in the morning and afternoon. Example of Activities offered during classes: | 1 lesson = 60 minutes Learning Materials: USD 25 to be paid upon arrival. All documents and study material are provided by the school. |

Spanish + Work Experience
| Spanish + Volunteer Work | | Learn Spanish and help changing the life of many people in Guatemala | Students who are in Antigua for an extended period of time can be assistants or obtain positions as teachers in local schools. Those here for a shorter time can visit hospital patients, spend time with elderly people in local rest homes, or play with children in nearby orphanages. There are also opportunities to work with handicapped people. Our Spanish language school partner can help you find a social project where you will practice your Spanish and you will help Guatemalan people. The school tries to find the social project which matches your experience and/or goals. You cover your own food and lodging (for example in Guatemalan families). To do volunteer work just let us know what you would like to do so we can find the proper place for you. Usually volunteering is done in the afternoons (after your Spanish lessons or after your Spanish course).
| | The school founded a day care center for the sons and daughters of single Guatemalan mothers. They facilitate the education of the children, as well as providing them with meals, thus allowing the mothers the opportunity to find a job and giving a better life to their children. The school is financing some of these projects with its income. Obviously, the needs are greater so they are looking for VOLUNTEERS (teachers, cooks, baby-sitters, nurses/doctors, or any one who loves kids), as well as donations of clothing for adults and children, study materials, medicines, and money, or whatever you can help with. All donations will be greatly appreciated and put to good use. With your help, the school can make a tremendous difference and change many lives. | | If a student does not enroll for a Spanish course but only does the volunteering program, accommodation is available at an extra cost: Accommodation in Host Family, single room, full board: USD 115 per week Accommodation in Guest House, single room, full board: USD 115 per week
Volunteering Placement Fee: USD 25 per week
