English Language School

The English language school was established in 1969 and is located in the heart of Covent Garden where you will find lots of interesting shops, cafes, restaurants, museums, galleries, theatres and much more. The school is located very close to 3 central London tube stations, helping to make travelling around London really easy.

The school building has 13 bright, spacious and nice decorated classrooms and 15 extra classrooms in a location 3 minutes from the school. The café is most definitely a highlight, serving good value home-made dishes all day; you can even attend coffee and conversation sessions with a teacher during some break times. Other facilities include a student computer room, free Wi-Fi, a study room and library.

The school holds an “Open-Door Policy”, which means students are welcome to discuss any aspect of their course, at any time, with the Director of Studies.

English Language Courses

All students will take a placement test to accurately assess their English language ability so they can be placed in a class with students of the same level. The school’s course levels follow the structure of the Common European Framework. The students will be given a welcome talk by the Academic Director, who provides a brief introduction regarding timetables, lessons and other academic information.

 Standard English Language Course (20 lessons per week)
The Standard English Language Course is a General English Language Course which offers good solid foundation in all aspects of the English language.

The course provides the essential structures and vocabulary, using a course book and supplementary materials and also gives a lot of practice in all four language skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

With regular Speaking and Listening practice and new language input, the course is designed to improve the student’s level and to maximize their ability to use the English. Students will have two teachers, one of whom will be the class teacher who will look after the student’s academic progress throughout the stay.

Intensive English Language Course (30 lessons per week)
The Intensive English Language course is the same as the Standard English Language program, but with the advantage of two extra lessons in the afternoon (30 lessons per week). This course gives the student more study time in order to progress, while gaining greater fluency and accuracy in a more timely manner. A combination of General English for core skills and selection of electives will allow you to gain greater fluency and accuracy more quickly. The special focus module is held in the afternoon.

  • Minimum duration: 1 week
  • 30 lessons per week (22.5 hours)
  • 1 lesson = 45 minutes
  • Timetable: 09:00 – 14:15 including a 15 minutes break and a 30 minutes lunch break. The school reserves the right to introduce a double banking schedule, alternating between morning and afternoon sessions, with lessons either from 09:00 – 14:15 or from 12:45 – 17:45.

Academic Year Program (20 or 30 lessons per week)
The Academic Year is specifically designed for students studying 6 months or more and is highly structured and comprehensive to enable you to devote yourself to your studies and to maximize your progress over an extended period of time.

Choose to study 20 lessons or the intensive option of 30 lessons each week. With 6 to 12 months of dedicated English language study you can progress at least two complete language levels. With dedication and commitment you can advance up to four levels.

Upon reaching upper-intermediate level, you will have the freedom to choose between business and academic pathways. Students can take a recognized exam preparation course.

If you would like to embark on an undergraduate or post graduate course in an English speaking destination, the University Access Program of our partner school will provide you with the skills you need to achieve your goals and chosen degree. You will improve your English to an advanced level whilst also learning the techniques needed to succeed in an English speaking university. The course includes English for Academic Purposes as well as exam preparation (IELTS; FCE or CAE).

One-to-One lessons is the ultimate course for making maximum progress during a short period of time. This is a highly intensive course which is 100% focused on the student’s English language requirements and designed by the teachers to match specific needs.

This is the most flexible and personal course available.

Students can choose to study 20, 30 or 40 lessons per week or combine One-to-One lessons with a group course. This combination gives you the advantage of the interaction of a group in the morning and individually tailored lessons in the afternoon.

Exam Preparation English Language Courses

We provide a number of Exam Preparation English Language Courses which guarantee to improve your English and prepare you for your chosen examination.

The primary focus of the course is to ensure that you attain or surpass the level of English you require to sit your chosen exam. The more time you dedicate to learning English, the more you will improve and can therefore achieve your desired exam score. You will also receive exam preparation skills specific to your chosen exam, ensuring that you are 100% prepared on the day of your examination. We know that every student is different, which is why we combine a structured course with a personal study plan, individual tutorials and a personal reading program, to ensure that you maximize your personal potential.

Cambridge Preparation English Language Courses (20 or 30 lessons per week)
The Cambridge ESOL examinations are recognised by employers and professional bodies, universities and colleges all over the world. ESOL are based on the language level standards of upper intermediate (FCE), advanced (CAE) and proficiency (CPE). These internationally recognised examinations are the best examinations for challenging, testing and confirming your reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities, at the level you require.

TOEFL Exam Preparation English Language Course (30 lessons per week)
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability to use and understand English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and on university courses.

The exam tests all four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, assessing your ability to communicate in an academic setting and your readiness for academic coursework.

Minimum level of English required is Upper-Intermediate. If you have a lower level of English you can increase your level by studying Standard English or Intensive English before starting your exam preparation course.

We offer short intensive courses created for busy people who want to improve their English language ability as much as they can in a short period of time. To ensure you benefit from your course in the most efficient way, we establish your needs before your arrival. You will complete a needs analysis identifying your motivation for learning English. Once we have this information we are able to customise your course to suit your needs.

Throughout your course, your progress will be monitored and recorded. Job Club
The Job Club is a free and quite popular service offered to our students. It consists of helping students to find a paid job whilst studying, in accordance to UK visa regulations. The school will guide you in CV and application letter writing, give you tips for interviews and direct you to the best places to find jobs locally.

Jobs are typically in catering, housekeeping and the hospitality industry. There is no minimum number of weeks in order to use that service, however, it is rather recommended for long-term students (8 weeks +) as it might be difficult to find a job for a short study period only. Students cannot book this service in advance. It must be discussed and dealt with directly between the school and the student upon arrival.

Junior English Programs

Junior Summer English Programs (13-17 years) (20 lessons per week + activities)
London is one of the world’s most exciting and fascinating cities, it is a cultural capital offering enormous variety of activities, with something for everyone. It’s easy to see why so many international language students travel to London to study English every year.

Our English language partner school therefore offers an English language program for younger students aged 13 to 17 years during the summer months from July to August.

Students study 20 lessons per week in international classes of max. 15 students per group. The school uses a communicative approach to make students feel comfortable when speaking English. Students alternate between morning and afternoon classes.

The college provides excellent facilities in London travel zone 3, just outside of the bustle of central London, yet less than 15 minutes by train into the city centre. Facilities at school include excellent classrooms, a beautiful school hall, great sports facilities including an indoor heated swimming pool, football pitches and hard tennis courts. Morning sports activities take place at St. Dunstan’s and evening activities take place on site or very nearby. There will be opportunities for students to mix with British students during their free time and activities - allowing international students to communicate in English with native speakers of their own age throughout their stay.
