Great Britain - England and Scotland
Great Britain has a rich heritage derived from its history as a former ruling
power and serial colonizer. Today, plenty of influences
from this illustrious past are easily noticeable and
present in the form of a culturally diverse society with
many customs and benefits drawn from the vast resources
and particularities that each colony of the former British
Empire has contributed to the present day England. An
essential element of British society would be lacking
without the Royal Family “the Windsors”, who are
constantly subject to rumors, speculation and tabloid
stories, which provide a seemingly unending source of
entertainment to the general population and quite often
reflect the self-mockery which is an inherent part of the
British mentality. Get to know the English humor and
become familiar with traditional 5 o’clock tea, or baked
beans and sausages for breakfast.
In London, you can
visit plenty of world class museums for free and spend the
saved money on a bespoke tailored suit in Savile Row or in
the countless boutiques on and around Oxford Street. If,
on the other hand, you would like to get a more authentic
feel of traditional England, the Cambridge and Oxford
University cities (responsible for the educational
formation of numerous Nobel Prize winners and further
geniuses), are a great choice. Southern coastal towns,
Portsmouth and Bournemouth, are also great places to
experience the true English lifestyle and get away from
the big city haze. For those who are keen on nature and
good Whiskey, Edinburgh in Scotland is a must. No matter
your choice of cities, a visit to the local pub is
obligatory in order to enjoy a typical English meal -
“chicken curry” accompanied by a refreshing “Lager” beer.
