English Courses
Courses are designed to develop students' language skills for effective communication in everyday English or in specific areas. The structured curriculum builds the four main skill areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Course books and printed material provide an important framework for lessons. Students learn to use real-life language outside the classroom. A variety of learning activities are used including audio and video material, surveys, questionnaires and research projects, role-play and communication games. Classes also go out and about to museums, libraries, art galleries, law courts and shops on factfinding missions that provide the materials for talks, information exchanges and presentations.
| | Most of the courses include the following new programs:- "Spoken Performance Workshops" to develop active expression of the language; spoken performance workshops usually take place in the morning and focus on current topics or subjects of interest. Here different English levels are mixed and the group is subdivided into smaller groups of 3-4 students which will discuss the topic given between each other. spoken performance workshops always take place from between 9-10am from Monday to Friday.
- "Masterclasses", which are individual study projects under active guidance from the teacher. Masterclasses are designed to help students work on their weaknesses or focus on a subject of interest/project for the more advanced students. Whilst students are working mainly individually, the teacher dedicates time to each single student.
- Plenary Sessions, which consist of a morning News Review and an afternoon Consolidation lesson
Learning materials: You can borrow these during your stay at the school or buy the course books if you would like to keep them after your language program. We offer several different types of English courses: | |

As an important extension of course work, a variety of social and cultural activities are available to students throughout the week, helping them to get to know Edinburgh and Scotland. To make the most of their time in Scotland, students can also choose from several overnight and day trips at the weekends to famous castles and locations such as Loch Ness. During the summer season the city comes alive with the Edinburgh Festival and festival events are organized for students during each week, including the renowned Edinburgh Tattoo. With some of Britain's wildest and most beautiful scenery as your backdrop, you can enjoy a wide range of outdoor pursuits, tailored to suit your preferred pace and element: golfing, fishing, cycling, hillwalking, skiing plus a raft of extreme sports from snow-boarding and quadbiking to whitewater canoeing and microlighting.
