Edinburgh boasts all the attractions expected of a capital city, while
being friendly, safe and easy to travel around. It is a welcoming city that enjoys an unrivalled quality of life. Every summer, the city hosts the world-famous Edinburgh International
Festival and the Festival Fringe. These events bring together
performers from all over the world in an enormous celebration of
the arts.
Edinburgh is also the gateway to the rest of Scotland, a
country of natural beauty and rich in history. Scotland's
Highlands and Islands - featuring rugged coastline, mountains,
lochs and glens - are waiting to be explored. There are castles
to visit, whisky distilleries and woolen mills, fishing
villages and nature reserves. Scotland provides many
opportunities for outdoor pursuits, from hill-walking and salmon
fishing in the summer, to skiing and snowboarding in the winter.
Our partner school is located in Cranston House in Edinburgh's 'Old
Town'. The school stands proudly on the historic Royal Mile -
the most famous street in Scotland. Inside Cranston House, this
impressive building and former church has been transformed to
create a bright, well-equipped and modern English language
school.
The
Royal Mile runs from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyrood,
the Queen's official residence in Scotland. Along the Royal Mile,
Scotland's past and present merge. You will find museums,
visitor centres and monuments such as the Scotch Whisky Heritage
Centre, St. Giles' Cathedral and John Knox's House. Next to Holyrood Palace are the newly built Scottish Parliament and the
popular visitor attraction, Dynamic Earth.
School
Our partner school
in Edinburgh was founded in 1969 as the Edinburgh School of
English, becoming Scotland's first independent EFL school.
There are two
teaching centres (Cranston House and the India Buildings) which
are both historic buildings. They have been transformed to
provide bright, well-equipped classrooms and common rooms with
ample space for teaching, study and socialising.

Courses
Courses are designed
to develop students' language skills for effective communication
in everyday English or in specific areas. The structured
curriculum builds the four main skill areas of speaking,
listening, reading and writing. Course books and printed
material provide an important framework for lessons. Students
learn to use real-life language outside the classroom. A variety
of learning activities are used including audio and video
material, surveys, questionnaires and research projects,
role-play and communication games. Classes also get out and
about - to museums, libraries, art galleries, law courts, and
shops - on fact-finding missions which provide the materials for
talk, presentations and information exchanges.
Most of the courses include the following new programs:
"Fluency
Workshops"
to develop active
expression of the language;
"Masterclasses",
which are individual
study projects under active guidance from the teacher.
Learning
materials: You can borrow these during your stay at
the school
or
buy the course books if you would like to keep them after
your language program.
