The school uses a comprehensive mixture of learning techniques which accommodates the various learning styles of different students and allows them to achieve their learning outcomes while having a rewarding cultural experience. The emphasis is on the communicative approach and we use the most modern and authentic published materials from the print and broadcast media, which reflect modern English usage.

There are 6 levels in the General English Programs, from Pre-intermediate to High Advanced. These levels follow the common European Framework. Maximum class size is 12 in the General English courses (14 in summer) and 14 in the Examination Preparation Classes. Each lesson lasts for 45 minutes. 2 weeks min. for general courses.

Classes have a team of two teachers and use a core textbook supplemented by a variety of interesting authentic and innovative materials. The textbook is extremely popular with learners because of its clear structure, comprehensive grammar and its special focus on high-frequency, useful vocabulary, presented in a range of topical contexts. All four skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) are developed, with specific tasks to enhance learners’ language skills.

All teachers hold a university degree and a TEFL qualification and are committed to continuous training with monthly workshops focusing on their professional development. The academic staff are always available for guidance to help students achieve their individual linguistic needs.

Our new Executive Summer program has been designed for clients who wish to attend General English group classes during high season but would prefer to study in smaller groups – i.e. minimum 3 and maximum 8 in a group.

The course is designed to help students become more effective users of English for travel, study, work or pleasure. The course focuses on listening, speaking & pronunciation, reading, writing and language awareness.

Our English language school partner uses a communicative task based approach which takes advantage of the total immersion situation that students encounter while living in Ireland. The emphasis in class is on interactive participation and the syllabus is designed around this to challenge students. Students can expect group and pair work, teacher led discussions, reading & writing tasks, presentations and elements of Irish Culture.

All students must successfully pass a pre-test in order to participate in the school’s Cambridge or IELTS exam preparation courses.

The University of Cambridge Certificates are the most recognized certificates of British English around the world and are a very valuable proof of English language proficiency.

Our partner school offers a 12 week preparation program to both Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) and Certificate of Advanced English (CAE). Students in the FCE and CAE Preparation Courses focus on not only passing the final examination, but also on improving their general accuracy and fluency in English. All students must successfully pass a pre-test in order to participate in these courses. The school is not an exam centre for Cambridge. The exam can be taken in Dublin and sometimes in Galway, too. This program, more intensive, is offered over a reduced period of 6 weeks. It includes preparation to Cambridge First Certificate (FCE), Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). It measures the everyday English skills of people working in an international environment. The TOEIC preparation is a module offered in the afternoon and combined with a general Intensive English Language Course. Our partner school is an exam centre for the TOEIC test. The test can be taken once each month at the school (on the last week of tuition, usually on Thursdays).

This course is ideal for anyone seeking a group business English course cost effectively. Clients attend 20 lessons of General English and 10 Business English lessons and need to have an upper intermediate level of English to participate on this course. This course is designed to meet the needs and objectives of clients working in a business environment. The emphasis is on improving communication skills and presentation and meeting techniques are also covered. Focus is on business writing, selling on the telephone, customer service, presentations, meetings etc.

This intensive course in small group enables highly motivated professionals to improve their existing English communication skills in a limited amount of time. Small groups (4 professionals max) meet for 35 lessons of business English. Available to intermediate to advanced students that have ideally some professional experience. Needs analysis is completed and a negotiated syllabus is decided with your business trainer. Seminars include negotiation techniques, presentation skills, business communication and cross cultural training. Business lunch with trainers is an option.

This course is aimed at clients from a variety of backgrounds who are 45+. Clients may be in a closed group (min. of 8 students required) or integrated into existing classes. The program emphasizes communication skills with an introduction to Irish culture and social life. Excursions, cultural workshops and activities form an integral part of the program.

The program also includes accommodation at a host family, in a single room with shared bathroom and half board. Accommodation can also be organised in selected B&Bs.

The language and culture course is aimed at students who wish to improve their language level and explore Ireland’s heritage and culture. This course combines general English classes in the morning with the culture element of the course being delivered in the afternoon from 1.30 – 3.00 with some of the workshops possibly happening from 3.30 – 5.00.

The informative, interesting and fun afternoon lessons cover a broad range of topics chosen to reflect several aspects of Irish history, the arts, the Irish language, social and economic development and the several subtle mores that differentiate the Irish from other English speaking counties. These lessons are in lecture, Q&A and discussion format.

Each week there is one hands on culture workshop where the participants learn a skill with an Irish flavour such as Irish dancing, playing the tin whistle (like a flute), the basics of the Irish language, performing a scene from a famous Irish play.

This course is aimed at students who wish to improve their English and explore the rich world of Ireland’s culinary tradition. Language and Cookery combines 20 lessons general English in the morning with 6 culinary lessons on 3 afternoons when students explore the language of cooking and the kitchen. There is an introduction to local ingredients and recipes and a look at the evolution of modern Irish cuisine. On the 4th afternoon students attend a cookery demonstration and enjoy a meal that they have helped prepare.

Each week the afternoon classes build toward visiting St. Jude’s Bed & Breakfast, a beautiful period residence in Salthill for a cookery demonstration where students will learn to prepare a traditional three course Irish meal under the guidance of their chef. Once cooked, the students then sit and enjoy the fruit of their labour.

This 4 week course is aimed at students who want to improve their English and to get practical experience of film production. It combines 3 weeks of the Intensive English language course with 1 week of Film production in the mornings and afternoons. During the afternoons the students will have access to our DVD library with an extensive range of Irish films.

The film component of the course is done at film production facility in Galway and will be from 9.00am – 5.00pm from Monday to Friday. During the week the students will gain hands on experience of all the major aspects of film production from the planning phase, to acting and shooting and finally editing. The outcome of the course will be a 3-5 minute film that the students will have produced with each student receiving a DVD of their masterpiece to take home.

Filming may be inside or outside depending on many factors such as the story the students wish to tell, weather, or the need to get permits to film in certain locations. All aspects of the course will be at city locations for transport reasons.

Galway is a city at the cutting edge of the arts in Ireland with a several film production companies based in or around the city. Students will get the full benefit of this and will have the opportunity to work in one of Ireland’s most picturesque cities.
