| The
English Internship Program (EIP) is designed for mature students
(20+) who wish to advance their careers by improving their
English skills and practicing them within a Canadian business
environment. Please note that an advanced level of English is
required for this program.
The EIP consists of two parts: an English language study
portion and a non-paid internship portion. You will be able to
apply your language skills, learn about the business culture in
Canada, and gain international experience that will look great
on your résumé.
How does the program work?
Under Canada’s immigration rules, the internship placement
period may not exceed 50% of the entire program. The complete
program runs for a minimum of 8 weeks: 4 weeks of classes
followed by 4 weeks with a host company. To benefit the most
from this program, we recommend that you study for at least two
months before starting the placement. The first portion of the
program will be our English classes (10 or 20 hours/week). In
addition to attending these classes, you will meet with our EIP
Coordinator for counseling and/or seminars to prepare you for
your placement. These sessions will include cross-cultural
orientation, work ethics and conditions, industry information
and performance expectations.
During your placement, you will be in regular contact with
our EIP Coordinator for continuing guidance and at the end of
your program you will have a chance to evaluate your experience
with our EIP Coordinator. You will receive a diploma and an
evaluation from your host company.
How will you choose a host company for me?
We will try our best to find a placement that is relevant to
your skills, studies and/or business background. Placement will
depend on availability as well as your language ability,
education level and previous experience. We need your CV
together with your application.
Do I need a Work Permit?
No. The internship placement is an extension of your English
program, and is unpaid, so you do not need a Work Permit.
Regular visa requirements apply; if you want to stay in Canada
for more than six months, you will need to apply for a Student
Permit. Check out the Canadian Immigration website for more
information:
www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp
What will I be doing at the host company?
During your placement, you will be observing daily functions
in a Canadian company. Your host company will decide what your
exact duties will be. This may depend on your skills,
experience, studies and the length of your placement. It is
important to remember that as a guest of this host company, your
expectations should focus primarily on the English language and
cultural learning experience.
When can I start?
You can begin classes on any start date and then begin the
unpaid placement on the week after your classes end.
Please note: We cannot guarantee placement in a chosen field
or with a specific company, but we will do our best to make a
suitable match. We ask our internship students to be flexible
and to accept the best available position.
How much will it cost?
For the study portion of the EIP, our regular fees apply
(have a look at our price list or check our website
www.studyglobal.net/pricestoronto.htm. For the internship
portion of your program, there is a one-time fee of C$1200. This
includes the internship placement, preplacement seminars/counselling
and follow-up sessions. |
