Brisbane and Sydney, Australia |
|
|
|
Location |
 |
|
| Choose one
or both from two of Australia's most beautiful and exciting
cities! |
Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland,
is midway up the east coast of Australia. With the Gold Coast
to the south and the Sunshine Coast to the north, domestic and
international airports, Brisbane is an ideal headquarters for
an Australian holiday.
Brisbane, indeed all Queensland, operates on Eastern Standard
Time which is 10 hours ahead of GMT. Summertime or Daylight
Saving is not observed.
Residents and visitors to Brisbane enjoy a wide range of
landscapes and lifestyles. The inner-city, metropolitan Brisbane
is surrounded by leafy, sometimes very hilly, suburbs. Further
out in the suburbs, the traditional Australian house on a
large block or even acreage dominates. |
 |
|
Moreton Bay and its islands provide
water sports, sailing and sea-side suburbs. The Pacific Highway
leads south to the Gold Coast and its well-known surf beaches.
North is the seaside town of Redcliffe,
the rainforest and picturesque countryside
of Pine Rivers, Caboolture
and the Glasshouse Mountains. Bribie Island offers the first
surf beach to the north.
The Sunshine Coast towns and hinterland
are popular holiday spots. Travelling west of Brisbane, past
Ipswich, you soon climb the Great Dividing Range to Toowoomba
and the rich plains of the Darling Downs. |
Sydney, sunny, sexy,
sophisticated - Sydney basks as the shining star of the southern
hemisphere. The stunning Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour
Bridge are the pride and joy, but there's much more on offer.
They say that Sydney never sleeps. In daylight hours the city
buzzes with life and it doesn’t close down when workers
leave their offices. All-night pubs, cutting-edge dance clubs,
and gay reviews could keep you out until dawn. Fancy a late-night
meal or a final coffee - that’s not a problem. Be seen
on trendy Oxford Street from Darlinghurst to Paddington or
try the Woolloomooloo Finger Wharf, Surry Hills, the quay
or the Rocks. It’s too many choices, not too few, that
make the decision hard! |
 |
|
In Australia, we drive on the left
side of the road. Although there are trains, buses and ferries
in Brisbane and Sydney, most families own at least one car. The local currency
is Australian dollars and the smallest coin in use is the 5
cent coin.
Australia is the sixth largest country in the world. It's
about the same size as the 48 mainland states of the USA and
50 per cent larger than Europe, but has the lowest population
density in the world - only two people per square kilometer. |

Methodology
and Teaching Approach |
| Our teaching method
is communicative with an emphasis on integrated skills. |
|
| |
Pre-Testing |
| On entering the college
you will take an intake test, which shows us your level of English.
You will then be placed into a class according to your level.
The intake test covers Reading, Writing and Grammar. There is
an interview to assess Listening and Speaking. |
| |
Counseling |
| Students are individually
counseled twice during each 10 week course, in week 5 and week
8. Counseling covers both Academic and Pastoral concerns and
is coordinated by one of our Senior Teachers and conducted by
class teachers. |
|
Courses |
 |
The courses
offered are the same at all campuses unless otherwise indicated.
On the first day of the course, all students complete a comprehensive
test and interview to ensure they are placed in the appropriate
class which suits their level of English.
Each level follows a course book using the latest methodology.
Course books are supplemented according to students' needs and
interests. Students progress is regularly monitored through
individual interviews with the teacher and monthly progress
tests. At the end of the program, students are awarded a certificate
which indicates the level they have attained.
Classes at Elementary and Pre-Intermediate levels focus on Speaking,
Listening and Pronunciation in the afternoon. Students at these
levels are given extra help to improve their spoken English
and comprehension quickly and effectively. |
